Description

JACARANDA MIMOSIFOLIA

“Blue Jacaranda”

Family: Myrtaceae.

Sprouting: 14-50 days.

Famous for its lavender bells and the carpet of fallen blossoms that forms around it in spring and early summer. Native to Brazil, the Jacaranda has become famous in the town of Grafton in northern NSW where the Jacaranda Festival is held each year.

Fast-growing to 20m and ideal for shade, it is also adaptable to most soils and positions.  Young trees are drought and frost tender so may require protection and frequent watering until mature. The unusually shaped, tough pods may also be cleaned and used to decorate Christmas trees and dried arrangements. Popular as a Bonsai specimen.
