Description

DICHONDRA REPENS “Kidney Weed”

Family: Convolvulaceae.

Ideal sowing temp: 10-22C (Avoid the coldest and hottest temps).

Position:  Low traffic areas

Sowing: 1mm deep. Direct sow.

Care:  Water with fine mist spray to avoid disturbance of the seed. Covering the seeds with a light layer of peat moss helps with moisture retention. If using as a lawn alternative, the dichondra can be mowed to around 4 cm in the summer, cutting every two weeks.

Sprouting: 7-42 days.

Drought-resistant, creeping ground-cover, native to Australia and New Zealand. A lawn substitute for low foot traffic areas, it is often planted in places where other turf-type grass does not grow well. Adult leaves are kidney shaped and small flowers green-yellow. It will form a thick mat in part shaded positions and also looks wonderful in hanging baskets or pots as it will cascade over the side and is very low maintenance.

Approx 250-450 seeds per gram

SOWING RATE: 1 KG PER 100 METERS SQUARE

Very satisfied

Delivery was quick and had them in the ground next day. I had a good germination rate and would buy further seeds from you if required.

No luck

I am sorry to say that not one single seed germinated! I am what I consider an experienced gardener and this was a most disappointing choice to buy seeds instead of a live plant! Never again!

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave feedback about your seeds. While we take great care picking, cleaning, storing, packaging, and sending our seeds out into the world, the actual growing of each seed has many many variables that are completely out of our control. While we always hope the seeds we supply will grow really well, we cannot guarantee it and we do care – a lot. We have sent you a private email and hope to hear from you soon. Thanks again.

Hi GG, I googled it to check for effect on animals and unfortunately SOME dogs can have an allergic reaction to it. Given that my deaf white kelpie has pink skin and has had many skin allergies and subsequent cortisone treatments ... I decided not to risk it. It's not a worry at all, just being super careful. I have given the Dichondra to my neighbour who doesn't have pets and I'll check out your website for other groundcovers, happy to hear your suggestions xxxSY

Hi Sri Yantra. Thanks so much for letting us know, we are thrilled that your seeds arrived safely and really glad that your dog is safe. Thanks for the info about the irritation! You might like to check out our Kennedia seeds instead as they are a lovely, native ground cover/creeper with a delightful red flower and hopefully less irritant to the skin of your beloved white kelpie xx
