Description

CALLISTEMON SALIGNUS

“Willow Bottlebrush”

Family: Myrtaceae

Sprouting: 14-42 days.

Endemic to New South Wales and Queensland, it prefers a light, moist soil in an open sunny position and is drought frost and wind resistant, making it an excellent garden and street tree.

Known for its bright green willow-like foliage, which gives it its’ common name. Attractive to bees, butterflies, and birds, it will grow in most sites including areas that are water-logged. The trunks are attractive, creamy paperbark, with creamy white flowers appearing late spring.  It typically grows to 7m and in ideal conditions, will grow up to 1200mm a year, forming an excellent weeping canopy within 5 years.

The flowers have a sweet nectar which can either be enjoyed by sucking on the flowers or by soaking the flowers in water to make a sweet drink.
