ALLOCASUARINA LITTORALIS
“Black She Oak”
Family: Casuarinaceae
Sprouting: 6-42 days.
Hardy, compact, drought- and frost-tolerant medium sized tree to 12m high. Fast growing, nitrogen fixing, great for farms and large properties where windbreaks are needed. One of the most widespread species in Australia. Grows in sandy, clay and loam soils. Tolerates coastal conditions but prefers well-drained soils on hills and mountain sides. The species is ‘dioecious’ which means the female and male flowers occur on separate plants. Used for timber and windbreaks. Suitable for bonsai and growing in pots.
