Description

ACACIA MEARNSII

“Black Wattle”

Family: Fabaceae

Sprouting: 6-242 days

Spreading shrub or tree to 10m high with fern-like leaves and pale yellow or cream flowers in spring to early summer. Moderately frost and drought tolerant, it is found mainly in the drier coastal woodlands of eastern and southern Australia.  Ideal for subtropical and warm temperate regions. The world's premier source of tannins, it is nitrogen-fixing and is noted for attracting wildlife but it is not wind-tolerant, prefers moist soil, will handle neutral and very acid soils, as well as nutritionally poor soil, and cannot grow in the shade. The Gum and Seeds are considered edible. The gum is eaten and dissolved in water and used to make drinks

Excellent

The service was prompt and the seeds are growing even though its autumn. Will plant a second lot in spring. Australia Post made a dogs dinner of delivery but Chakra Garden offered to replace them if they never arrived. They arrived after many days of going from one sorting office to another.

We are thrilled to know they arrived safely Susan!! Enjoy

Acacia Mearnsii Seed

Seeds arrived promptly. Thank you. Will wait till spring for sowing - tube stock very difficult to procure on the mid north coast of NSW due to demand from bush fire reveg programs - so hopefully I will have plants to share!
