Description

DODONAEA VISCOSA ssp viscosa

Sticky Hop Bush

Widespread in inland districts in mallee scrub and open forests of New South Wales, South Australia, and Victoria.

Therapeutic uses: traditionally used by Aboriginal Australians to treat toothache, cuts and stingray stings.

The Chakra Garden cannot take any responsibility for any adverse effects from the use of plants.

Always seek advice from a professional before eating or using a plant therapeutically.

Erect shrub to 3 metres high, but can also grow to 8m tree. Cultivated as an ornamental plant for use in gardens and as a potted plant.  Capsules were used as a hop substitute by early settlers.  Attractive colours make this ideal for any garden or as an informal hedge or screening shrub to 3 metres.  It has narrow green leaves and yellow-green flowers in clusters in Spring, followed by claret coloured fruits in summer. Drought and frost resistant. The more sun these get, the brighter the capsules in Summer.
