INDIGOFERA ADESMIIFOLIA “Tick Indigo”

Family: Fabaceae

Sprouting: 20-42 days.

Found in Qld, NSW and Vic usually growing in rocky places and is widespread. Most commonly found in light sandy-loams or other shallow friable soils in semi-shade. It tolerates moderately heavy frosts. The sprays of purple or rarely white pea-flowers appear in late winter to spring. Seeds have a long storage life.  Suitable for areas of low maintenance, it will grow in most soils except those that are very wet, it flowers well in shade or sun and is very frost hardy. It is useful low-level cover in windbreaks and is easily grazed out by stock. Natural regeneration is from seed, particularly after fire. The flowers are a pollen and nectar source for many native insects, including bees and wasps and the leaves are food for butterfly caterpillars.  Nitrogen-fixing.
