Portulaca oleracea sativa
Also known as little hogweed, pigweed, fatweed, and pusley, considered a nutritional powerhouse. Prostrate bushfood plant grown for its spicy leaves and stems. Grows in arid and temperate climates and is very hardy. Small yellow flowers in summer. Doesn’t like too much water.
The leaves, stems, flowers, and seeds are considered edible, either raw or cooked. Can be eaten raw in salads or steamed like spinach, a great bush tucker alternative. The seeds can also be collected and ground into a paste for cooking.
