Description

LEPTOSPERMUM LAEVIGATUM       “Coastal Tea Tree”

Sprouting: 14-50 days. 

Also called ‘Victorian Tea Tree’.   

Large shrub or small tree with spreading branches and papery brown bark that becomes thick and grey on the trunk. Develops blue-green or grey-green foliage and five-petalled white flowers with a pink-red ring around the green centre from winter to spring. Originated from Southeastern Australia and is now found in the wild as an introduced species in Southern and Western Australia. 

Prefers a light moist soil in a sunny or partly shaded position but is also hardy in a range of climates and soils. Drought resistant and frost tolerant to -7°C 

The dried leaves have been used for making a tea.
