Capsicum annum

A medium heat hot pepper with Scoville heat units of (SHU): 5,000 – 30,000 SHU, it’s heat ranges somewhere between a jalapeño chilli and a cayenne pepper.  Also known as the ‘carrot pepper’ or ‘shipkas’, the fruits start off green and turn to bright orange when mature.  Cold tolerant. Grows to about 50cm, making it ideal for pots and balconies.

Great for roasting and pickling with its’ crunchy flesh, intense flavour, and brightly coloured skin. Also used for making chutney and salsa.
