Seed remains viable for several years stored at room temperature.
Usually a shrub to 2m, it has been known to reach 5m in height. White, cream, or yellow flowers appear in Spring and Summer. The stems, twigs and dry foliage of this plant have been used for over 80 years in Australia for ornamental brushwood fencing, while uses include the manufacture of hanging baskets, garden furniture, and gazebos. Melaleuca uncinata is also believed to be the only known host of the rare and threatened Rhizanthella Gardneri or, 'underground orchid'
