A rainforest tree to around 8m(can grow to A rainforest tree to around 8m. (can grow to over 20 metres tall in the rainforest).Native to QLD and NSW in Australia and New Guinea. The sole species within the genus Hymenosporum, and closely related to the genus Pittosporum.
Often planted in suburban streets, shopping precincts, and in walkways between tall buildings.
Prefers a well-drained soil with a high organic content, but is highly adaptable. Itcan be grown in shaded positions, but flowers best in full sun.Very young seedlings are easily killed by frosts but if kept in a sheltered position until about 1-1.5 metres high, will thrive in cooler areas, as long as they have access to water during hot dry spells. Frost tolerant when mature.
